About me and my work

Everything you need to know about me and how I work.

A timeline of my journey

This is the story of my relationship with design, from initial struggles, persistent efforts, to a gradual realization of how it became a part of me.

Early 2015

My foray into graphic design began this year, not by choice, but by a humorous twist of fate. As a high school senior, my artistic inclinations were firmly rooted in traditional media. I was all set to take an advanced painting class, but a clerical error led me to be enrolled in a digital design course instead. At first, I was frustrated, feeling out of place among students who were already adept at navigating through design software.

A few weeks into a digital art course, I accidentally created a wildly abstract self-portrait with exaggerated features due to my inexperience with image editing tools. This unintended, comical creation became a hit in class, igniting my interest in graphic design. It marked a turning point, transforming my view of computers from mere tools to extensions of my creativity. This accidental enrollment opened a world of boundless creativity, setting me on a passionate journey in graphic design.

Late 2019

This year, I embarked on my professional design journey with NovaDesign, a hub of creativity and innovation in the heart of the city.

At NovaDesign, my projects ranged from the vibrant rebranding of 'Caffe Artista' to crafting an interactive website for 'GreenScape', an eco-friendly landscaping business. Another highlight was designing the visual merchandising for 'Aurora Boutique', where I created captivating window displays for the fashion outlet. Each project was a unique canvas, allowing me to weave narratives through design and animation.

Mid 2021

A significant shift

In this period, I embarked on a new chapter in my career, leaving NovaDesign for Innovate Interactive, a firm known for its dynamic approach and diverse client base. This transition offered a chance to explore new realms of design and creativity, marking a shift towards broader horizons. My time at Innovate Interactive was characterized by rapid learning and varied projects, surrounded by a diverse team that brought unique perspectives and ideas.

One memorable incident in the early days at Innovate Interactive involved a brainstorming session where I suggested an idea that, unbeknownst to me, was a well-known design cliché. This blunder, while embarrassing, earned me the nickname "Retro Alex" and served as a humorous reminder to stay humble and continuously learn. This period was crucial for personal and professional growth, teaching me the importance of balancing creativity with practicality, embracing change, facing challenges head-on, and appreciating the value of diverse collaboration in creating impactful designs.

Early 2022

I took a leap into a personal project that was close to my heart—an animated series titled "Urban Myths Unfold." This series was a collection of short animations that brought to life various urban legends from around the world, each told with a unique visual style that blended traditional and digital art techniques. It combined eerie 2D animations with hauntingly beautiful background music, capturing the mysterious aura of the old Parisian streets. The series was more than just a showcase of my skills; it was a narrative journey that allowed me to push the boundaries of storytelling through animation.

Late 2023

This year marked a pivotal change in my career as I ventured into the world of freelancing, motivated by a desire for creative freedom and the opportunity to engage in projects that aligned with my design philosophy. This shift to freelancing wasn't just a career move; it represented a significant transition towards crafting a personal brand and establishing direct connections with clients and audiences. Concurrently, I embarked on a passion project that had been brewing for years—a graphic novel that melded my skills in animation and storytelling into a unique creation.

A memorable incident during this freelance journey involved my cat, Whiskers, who unexpectedly interrupted a video call with a potential client by sending a flurry of nonsensical messages across the chat. This humorous event sparked a conversation about work-life balance in freelancing, illustrating the personal touch and flexibility inherent in this career path. This year was about more than just building a client base; it was about forging meaningful relationships and creating work that truly reflected my identity. Each freelance project contributed to my growth not only as a designer but also as an individual, reinforcing the importance of independence, resilience, and the courage to pursue one's dreams.
